The Head of the Customs Authority in Yemen, Abdulhakim al-Qubati, held a video conference on Tuesday with U.S. Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, to discuss potential collaboration in customs operations. The dialogue focused on enhancing the partnership between the two entities, particularly in the realm of customs work.

During the meeting, both officials explored opportunities for cooperation aimed at developing infrastructure and implementing capacity-building programs. These initiatives are intended to streamline customs procedures, facilitate trade, improve staff efficiency, and ultimately increase customs and tax revenues.

Al-Qubati emphasized the Customs Authority’s commitment to expanding its collaboration with international partners. He acknowledged the previous support received from the United States through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) program. He expressed hope for the continuation of this support, aligning with the Authority’s modernization plans.

Ambassador Fagin reaffirmed the United States’ dedication to strengthening ties with Yemeni customs authorities. He highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance services for the commercial sector, which are crucial for boosting revenues and promoting economic stability in Yemen.
