In a recent address to congressional Republicans, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism regarding the ongoing military conflict with Iran, suggesting that it could conclude “pretty quickly.” This statement comes as the war enters its second week, following the initiation of a campaign by the United States and Israel on February 28, which involved extensive air and missile strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure.
Trump characterized the military operation, dubbed Operation Epic Fury, as a necessary measure to eliminate perceived threats from Iran. He claimed that the U.S. military’s capabilities would ensure a swift resolution to the conflict. According to Trump, approximately 80 percent of Iran’s missile launchers have already been destroyed, significantly diminishing the country’s military capabilities. He noted that over 5,000 targets had been struck, with plans to reserve some critical targets for potential future engagement.
In his remarks, Trump referred to the military action as a “short-term excursion,” asserting that while it may have caused a temporary economic pause, the overall impact would be minimal and the economy would rebound quickly. He emphasized that the conclusion of the operation would lead to a “much safer world.”
Additionally, Trump expressed disappointment over the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new supreme leader, following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei. He suggested that this change in leadership might perpetuate existing issues within Iran. When questioned about the potential risks facing the new leader, Trump refrained from making specific comments but acknowledged the heightened tensions surrounding the leadership transition.
As the situation develops, the international community continues to monitor the conflict and its implications for regional stability.
