Kuwait’s Interior Ministry has announced the successful prevention of a terrorist operation linked to Hezbollah, aimed at targeting critical infrastructure within the country. The operation, described as preemptive by officials, resulted in the arrest of ten Kuwaiti nationals associated with a Hezbollah-affiliated cell that has been banned.
According to authorities, the arrested individuals had been coordinating with external parties to provide them with the coordinates of potential targets, which posed a significant threat to national security. Investigations revealed that the members of this cell had undergone training abroad in Hezbollah camps, where they learned skills related to weapons handling and drone operations. These preparations were reportedly intended for sabotage activities designed to undermine the state’s sovereignty and instill fear among the populace.
The suspects have reportedly provided detailed confessions during the investigation. In response to this incident, the Interior Ministry emphasized its commitment to addressing any threats to Kuwait’s security with “the utmost firmness.” Officials have vowed to take decisive action against anyone found to be involved in undermining the nation’s safety or collaborating with terrorist organizations, promising maximum legal penalties for such offenses.
This development highlights ongoing concerns regarding the influence of Hezbollah and its affiliates in the region, as well as the vigilance of Kuwaiti authorities in countering potential threats to national security.
