International condemnation has surged following the recent attack on the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates in Erbil, located in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Various countries and organizations have expressed their disapproval of the assault, which has been characterized as a serious violation of international law and diplomatic norms.
The Kurdistan Regional Government issued a strong statement denouncing the attack, labeling it as a “terrorist act” and a “sabotage operation.” They emphasized that such actions represent a blatant violation of both international law and the sovereignty of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The government urged the federal authorities in Baghdad to take responsibility and address the activities of “illegal groups and militias” that threaten the security of citizens throughout Iraq.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry also condemned the incident, describing it as “an unacceptable act” that breaches international conventions designed to protect diplomatic missions. They highlighted that the attack contravenes the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and represents a dangerous escalation in regional tensions.
Jordan joined the chorus of condemnation, with its Foreign Ministry expressing strong disapproval of the attack, which resulted in injuries to two security personnel and damage to the consulate building. Jordan reaffirmed its commitment to international law and expressed solidarity with the UAE in the face of such violence.
Additionally, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), condemned the assault as a grave violation of the Vienna Convention and a serious threat to the safety of diplomats. He reiterated the GCC’s solidarity with the UAE against all forms of violence and terrorism, underscoring the collective stance of regional nations in support of diplomatic integrity.
