In a recent operation off the coast of Bab al-Mandab, Yemeni forces seized an Iranian smuggling vessel reportedly carrying dual-use materials intended for the Houthis. Minister of Information Muammar Al-Eryani emphasized that this incident highlights the ongoing support for the Houthis, despite increasing military pressure on the group.
The operation was executed by the Second Giants Brigades, led by Brigadier Hamdi Shukri. Al-Eryani characterized the mission as a demonstration of the forces’ operational readiness and advanced capabilities in surveillance, tracking, and interception within a critical maritime area. He noted that the successful seizure reflects a significant achievement in Yemen’s efforts to secure its waters.
Al-Eryani further asserted that the operation serves as a clear warning to those engaged in Iranian smuggling activities, indicating that Yemeni territorial waters are now under tighter control. He reaffirmed the commitment to safeguarding international shipping lanes, which are vital for global trade.
The minister highlighted the importance of continuing and expanding such operations to disrupt smuggling networks and cut off supply routes. He stated that these efforts are crucial for reshaping the security landscape not only in Yemen but also in the broader region.
