Israeli emergency services reported that over 100 individuals were injured following missile attacks launched by Iran on the southern cities of Dimona and Arad. This escalation is viewed as a response to an earlier attack on Iran’s Natanz nuclear enrichment facility. The situation marks a significant intensification in the ongoing conflict, which has been unfolding for several weeks.
In Arad, at least 88 people were reported injured, with 10 in serious condition. Dimona, home to Israel’s primary nuclear facility, saw 39 injuries, including a critically wounded 10-year-old boy. The attacks resulted in extensive damage, with several residential buildings destroyed in both cities. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the evening as “difficult” for Israel and reiterated the commitment to continue military actions against Iran.
Israeli military officials indicated that air defense systems were activated during the missile strikes but failed to intercept some of the incoming projectiles. Firefighters reported that two ballistic missiles struck their targets directly, causing significant destruction. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated that there was no indication of damage to the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center in Dimona, and no abnormal radiation levels were detected in the vicinity.
The Iranian state media characterized the missile strikes as retaliation for the earlier attack on the Natanz facility, although an unnamed Israeli official denied responsibility for that incident. The Israeli military had previously targeted a research and development facility in Tehran, claiming it was involved in the development of nuclear weapons components. The ongoing exchanges reflect a broader pattern of tit-for-tat actions between the two nations, with both sides seeking to assert their military capabilities.
