Minister of Culture and Tourism Engages with Berghof Foundation President to Advance Peace Initiatives in Yemen

In a significant meeting held in Berlin, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Yemen, Muti’ Damaj, engaged with Chris Coulter, Executive Director of the Berghof Foundation, along with Middle East Director Oliver Wils and the foundation’s regional team. The discussions centered on the ongoing peace efforts in Yemen and the safeguarding of the cultural and tourism sectors amidst the country’s current challenges.

The dialogue highlighted the Yemeni government’s strategic plans for the forthcoming phase, which include comprehensive reform programs aimed at improving various aspects of life within the country. Minister Damaj emphasized the importance of supporting initiatives that seek to establish lasting peace and alleviate the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the actions of the Iran-backed Houthi militia.

Minister Damaj reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering partnerships with international organizations focused on peacebuilding. He underscored the necessity of enhancing communication with both regional and international stakeholders, as well as leveraging global expertise in research, dialogue, and capacity building to support Yemen’s recovery.

The meeting also aimed to address the restoration of state institutions, the consolidation of stability, and the enhancement of security throughout Yemen. Chris Coulter expressed her organization’s dedication to monitoring developments in Yemen closely and reaffirmed the Berghof Foundation’s readiness to collaborate and share insights to bolster peace efforts and promote regional stability.
