Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has confirmed that all fires in the Ras Laffan industrial area have been fully contained, with no injuries reported. The announcement was made on Thursday, following a series of incidents that led to significant damage in the region.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the ministry noted that civil defense forces played a crucial role in controlling the fires. They are currently engaged in cooling and securing operations at the affected sites to ensure safety and prevent any further incidents. Additionally, the explosives unit of the Internal Security Force, known as Lekhwiya, is actively managing hazardous remnants from the situation.
Earlier on the same day, QatarEnergy reported that several of its key liquefied natural gas facilities had been targeted by missile attacks, which were responsible for causing the fires. The company indicated that these strikes resulted in “serious additional damage” to its infrastructure, raising concerns over the impact on operations in the vital energy sector.
The situation in Ras Laffan highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, particularly concerning critical energy infrastructure. The rapid response from civil defense forces has been pivotal in mitigating the risks associated with the fires and ensuring the safety of personnel and nearby communities.
