The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SPRDY) has formalized an agreement with the Response Foundation for Humanitarian and Relief Work to launch an agricultural value chain project. This initiative, titled “Enhancing the Agricultural Value Chain for Smallholders,” is set to benefit approximately 2,300 families, translating to over 16,000 individuals, across the Yemeni governorates of Abyan, Marib, and Hadramout.
The primary objective of the project is to bolster income sources for these families, while also improving the efficiency of resource utilization. The initiative aims to enhance the sustainability of livelihoods for pastoral families who depend on livestock breeding, thereby addressing critical economic needs in the region.
In addition to income generation, the project seeks to develop agricultural value chain loops in a comprehensive manner. This includes improving agricultural inputs, increasing the efficiency of irrigation techniques, and enhancing farmers’ capabilities to achieve better economic returns from their efforts.
The agreement marks a significant step in addressing the agricultural challenges faced by smallholders in Yemen, particularly in light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country. By focusing on sustainable agricultural practices and resource management, the project aims to create a more resilient agricultural sector that can support local communities.
