The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Defense reported on Saturday that its air defense systems successfully intercepted missile and drone attacks originating from Iran. The announcement was made via the ministry’s official account on X, indicating that the UAE’s air defenses were actively engaged in countering these threats.
Residents across various regions of the UAE reported hearing sounds associated with the interceptions, which involved both ballistic missile defense systems and fighter jets targeting incoming drones and cruise missiles. This response underscores the UAE’s commitment to protecting its national security amid escalating tensions in the region.
Earlier in the week, the UAE had condemned the Iranian strikes, emphasizing its readiness to defend its sovereignty. Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed condolences to the families of victims affected by the attacks, which included nationals from Palestine, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
Sheikh Abdullah characterized the Iranian assault as involving over 2,000 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones, aimed at critical civilian infrastructure, airports, and residential areas. He labeled the escalation a “flagrant violation of sovereignty” and a significant threat to both regional and international stability.
