Marib Deputy Governor Engages Turkish Associations on Humanitarian Initiatives

The Deputy Governor of Marib, Abd-Rabu Miftah, held a meeting on Sunday with a delegation from the Turkish associations Deniz Feneri and Al-Khair, led by Ufuk Khan Diyar. The discussions focused on the humanitarian interventions currently being implemented by these organizations in the governorate and the potential for expanding their efforts. The meeting aimed to strengthen the partnership between the local authority and the Turkish associations to better address the pressing humanitarian needs in the region.

Attending the meeting was Saqr Al-Jaadi, Deputy Head of Tawasol Foundation, which serves as the national implementing partner for the Turkish associations’ projects. The participants reviewed the humanitarian situation in Marib, highlighting the significant challenges faced by the local authority due to the influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs). Marib currently hosts over 62 percent of the total IDPs in Yemen, placing immense pressure on local resources and services.

Miftah pointed out the adverse effects of declining humanitarian funding for Yemen, noting the withdrawal of UN and international organizations from financing essential programs. He emphasized that the local authority is struggling to meet the basic needs of the displaced population and the host community in critical areas such as food, shelter, health, education, and water. The Deputy Governor also addressed the compounded challenges posed by the ongoing conflict, economic crisis, and climate change, underscoring the necessity for expanding partnerships with organizations that have independent funding sources.

The Deputy Governor reiterated the commitment of the local authority to facilitate the work of humanitarian partners and Turkish associations, aiming to ease the implementation of both emergency and sustainable development interventions. This approach is intended to alleviate the suffering of displaced persons and support the host community in Marib.

Diyar, representing the Turkish delegation, expressed that their visit to Marib signifies a commitment to enhancing collaboration with the local authority and identifying priority humanitarian needs. The delegation’s activities included the launch of several ongoing humanitarian projects designed to assist displaced families. These initiatives featured the distribution of 1,500 food baskets, 1,500 ready-to-eat iftar meals, 50 wheelchairs for individuals with disabilities, and 700 copies of the Holy Qur’an.
