The United Arab Emirates’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, addressed concerns regarding regional tensions during a recent Security Council meeting. He stated that Iran has “chosen to attack us,” while emphasizing that the UAE does not seek escalation in the ongoing conflict. His remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region, particularly related to Iranian activities.

Ambassador Abushahab reassured that the UAE is taking all necessary measures to protect its security, noting that the country’s air defenses have successfully neutralized Iranian attacks. He underscored the UAE’s commitment to maintaining a model of tolerance and peace, asserting that “no force can alter” this foundational principle.

The ambassador reiterated the UAE leadership’s priority of ensuring the safety and security of all individuals within the country. He expressed a desire to avoid conflict, stating that the UAE has actively sought dialogue and worked to prevent escalation in the region.

In conclusion, Abushahab affirmed that the UAE will continue to take all necessary actions to safeguard its security, sovereignty, and territory, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter. The UAE’s stance reflects a commitment to peace while remaining vigilant against threats to its national security.
