In a recent meeting held in Aden, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, engaged with Peter Hawkins, the UNICEF Representative in Yemen, to discuss the organization’s planned activities for the upcoming year. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in the implementation of various development and humanitarian programs aimed at addressing the needs of the Yemeni population.

The meeting highlighted UNICEF’s ongoing initiatives in critical areas such as social protection, health, nutrition, education, and water and sanitation. Both parties reviewed the impact of these interventions, which are designed to support essential services for children and families throughout Yemen. The importance of strengthening coordination and deepening partnerships was emphasized, aligning these efforts with the government’s humanitarian and development priorities.

Dr. Al-Zouba underscored the significance of continued collaboration with UNICEF, recognizing the organization as a vital partner in executing humanitarian and development programs. She pointed out the necessity of enhancing the government’s role in coordinating international assistance, ensuring that it aligns with national priorities. The minister also addressed the challenges faced by government institutions and the ongoing efforts to navigate the country’s current conditions.

Furthermore, Dr. Al-Zouba advocated for the development of new programs that transcend traditional assistance methods. She called for a greater emphasis on providing technical support to national and local institutions, enabling them to fulfill their roles more effectively. The minister articulated that development projects should reflect the government’s vision for sustainable and inclusive growth, while also safeguarding the rights of children, women, and vulnerable communities.
