Lieutenant General Mahmoud al-Subaihi, a member of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, held a meeting on Thursday with U.S. Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, in Riyadh. The discussion centered on the bilateral relations between Yemen and the United States, as well as the latest developments affecting both Yemen and the broader region.

During the meeting, al-Subaihi and Fagin explored various aspects of joint cooperation aimed at enhancing mutual interests. A significant focus was placed on efforts to bolster security and stability in Yemen, which has been plagued by ongoing conflict and instability. Al-Subaihi expressed gratitude for the United States’ supportive stance towards Yemen’s government and its political leadership, particularly in the context of countering terrorist threats posed by Houthi militias, which are reportedly backed by Iran.

The Lieutenant General also highlighted the Yemeni government’s initiatives to implement economic, administrative, and financial reforms. He noted the recent approval of the draft state budget and the government’s program as crucial steps toward restoring state institutions and enhancing their capacity to fulfill obligations to citizens.

In addition to discussing U.S. support, al-Subaihi acknowledged the assistance provided by Saudi Arabia to the Yemeni people, emphasizing its role in promoting stability and improving living conditions in areas liberated from conflict. He condemned Iranian attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and other regional nations, labeling these actions as violations of international law and threats to peace and security.

Ambassador Fagin reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. He emphasized the importance of continued coordination with regional and international partners to advance reform efforts and meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people for restored state institutions, security, stability, and development.
