In a recent virtual meeting, Yemen’s Minister of Finance, Marwan bin Ghanem, engaged with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, to discuss the economic conditions in Yemen and the UK’s support for comprehensive reforms. The dialogue focused on the UK’s backing for the Yemeni government’s 2026 program, which aims to address pressing economic and political challenges.

The meeting highlighted the TAFFY team initiative, launched in January 2025, which is spearheaded by the UK to assist Yemen in its reform efforts. This initiative is designed to provide technical assistance and expertise to the Yemeni government, with the goal of enhancing the performance of government institutions and delivering essential services to citizens. The overarching aim is to bolster economic and political stability within the country.

Both parties reviewed the financial and political support from the UK and the international community for the TAFFY initiative. This support is crucial for the Yemeni government as it seeks to implement a series of comprehensive economic, financial, monetary, and administrative reforms. The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to achieving stability and improving the national economy, which includes ensuring the provision of essential services and enhancing overall living conditions for citizens.

Ambassador Sharif reaffirmed the UK’s dedication to supporting Yemen and its people across various sectors. She expressed the UK’s commitment to backing the Yemeni government’s reform efforts, particularly in the economic and service sectors, while also focusing on improving citizens’ living standards. Furthermore, she reiterated the importance of achieving comprehensive and lasting peace, security, stability, and development in Yemen.

The discussions reflect a continued partnership between Yemen and the UK, aimed at navigating the complex challenges facing the nation and fostering a path toward sustainable development and reform.
