The Minister of Culture and Tourism of Yemen, Eng. Mute’a Dammaj, engaged in discussions regarding cultural cooperation with the German Ambassador to Yemen, Thomas Friedrich, and representatives from the Goethe Institute, including Dr. Katharina Rockchell, the Head of Culture and Education. The meeting, conducted via video conference, aimed to enhance cultural ties between Yemen and Germany through the activities of the Goethe Institute.
During the discussions, Dammaj emphasized the significance of revitalizing the Goethe Institute’s programs in Yemen. He proposed the establishment of a branch of the institute in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, to facilitate greater access to cultural and educational resources for the Yemeni population. The Minister’s call for increased presence of the Goethe Institute reflects a broader commitment to fostering international cultural relations.
The talks also addressed the support for the German Language Department at the University of Aden. Participants explored the potential for organizing internationally recognized German language examinations in Aden, which would further promote language education and cultural exchange. This initiative aligns with the Yemeni government’s goal of enhancing educational opportunities in collaboration with international partners.
The German Ambassador and Goethe Institute representatives expressed their readiness to expand cooperation with the Yemeni government.
