Authorities in Oman have confirmed that at least five individuals lost their lives due to flash floods that occurred over the past 24 hours. The National Committee for Emergency Management reported that search and rescue teams were able to save seven people from a vehicle that was swept away in a wadi in the Wilayat of Barka, where ten people were initially aboard.

Tragically, the bodies of three individuals were later recovered from the floodwaters. In a separate incident in the Wilayat of Wadi Al-Maawil, two citizens died after their vehicle became trapped in a watercourse; their bodies were retrieved shortly thereafter.

The fatalities are attributed to heavy rainfall that has been affecting various parts of the country. Oman has a history of experiencing severe flooding, with previous incidents leading to significant loss of life and property damage. Notably, in April 2024, the country faced deadly floods that resulted in the deaths of at least 20 people and caused extensive inundation in several areas.

As the situation develops, authorities are likely to continue monitoring weather conditions and implementing emergency response measures to ensure public safety.
