Yemen has expressed grave concerns regarding the activities of the Iran-backed Houthi militia, labeling them as a direct threat to regional peace and security. The Yemeni government asserts that the militia serves as a tool to undermine the country’s sovereignty and stability, disrupt essential services, and obstruct humanitarian assistance to those in need.
During a recent session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Deputy Minister of Human Rights Nabil Abdulhafeez delivered a statement emphasizing Yemen’s commitment to collaborating with regional and international partners to enhance security, stability, and human rights both within Yemen and throughout the region. He highlighted the support for a statement made by the Arab Group, which condemned the Houthi militia’s actions.
Abdulhafeez detailed the serious violations perpetrated by the Houthis against the Yemeni populace, including indiscriminate killings, torture, forced recruitment of children, and attacks on civilians and humanitarian facilities. These violations have been documented in reports from the United Nations and various international human rights organizations.
Furthermore, Yemen condemned Iranian interference in the internal affairs of other states and its backing of armed groups that commit significant abuses against their populations. The Yemeni government also denounced repeated attacks on vital infrastructure in Gulf and other Arab countries, which include oil facilities, airports, and seaports. Such actions, according to the statement, pose risks to civilian safety and threaten to escalate tensions across the region.
